Carl Levon Kustin
President/Senior Instructor

Carl

Carl, who is the President of Lee & Associates Rescue Equipment, Inc., manages our general staff and training programs. He is our lead consultant and Confined Space Rescue Standby Team Member.

Carl has been in the fire service for 22 years and is presently a Fire Captain with the City of San Mateo Fire Department. He is also a Rescue Team Manager for FEMA Task Force III and was deployed to Hurricane Inike (1992), Oklahoma City bombing (1995) and to New York City's World Trade Center attack (2001).

Carl's crew at the fire station refers to him as "The Supreme Commander". We think the name is fitting!

John Wickenhaeuser
Vice President/Senior Instructor

John

John, Vice President of Lee & Associates since 1995, manages daily operations and our Standby Rescue Services. He is one of our lead consultants and instructors.

John has been involved in the rescue industry since he started working for CMC Rescue in 1987. He received his initial rope rescue training as a member of the Los Padres Search and Rescue Team and now is one of our primary technical instructor trainers. John is also our liaison to all of our manufacturers and works directly with them on product performance and enhancement issues. If you pay us a visit, John is the one in the plush office . . .

Mike Ditano
Senior Instructor

Mike

Mike has been with Lee & Associates since 1988. He is a Senior Consultant, Confined Space Rescue Team Member and Instructor/Trainer.

Mike has been in the fire service for over eighteen years and he is presently a Fire Captain with the City of Santa Cruz Fire Department. He is also a Hazardous Materials Specialist and was a first responder to Loma Prieta earthquake (1989). Mike is not responsible for sensitivity training (no group hugs from him!)

Thomas Markus
Northwest Field Operations /
Senior Instructor

Thomas

Thomas, who is our Northwest Field Operations Representative, is responsible for customer support and training. He is our Senior Water Rescue Specialist and is based out of Ravensdale Washington.

Thomas has been active in Search and Rescue for over twenty-five years. He has worked for the US Coast Guard, Pierce County Sheriff's Department Emergency Management Division, Tualitin Fire Department and operated the training company of American Rescue and Safety Resource.

Thomas is the newest member of our team, but an old friend that knows the business. He is a dedicated rescue professional that genuinely cares for his customers needs.

Wayne Drager
Senior Instructor

Wayne

Wayne is our Senior Wildland Firefighting instructor. He is also our lead consultant regarding Wildland Interface and Defensible Space Issues.

Wayne has been in the fire service for over thirty-seven years. Twenty of those years were with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. During that time he spent six years as a Fire Crew Supervisor and fourteen years as a Captain with Alma Helitack. Wayne was responsible for crew training. Good luck keeping up with him!

Jake Pelk
Field Support Manager/Lead Instructor

Jake

Jake, who is our Customer Support Manager, is responsible for field demonstrations and in-service equipment training. He is also one of our Lead Instructors and Standby Rescue Team Members.

Jake has been in the fire service for over five years and is presently a firefighter/paramedic for the City of Burlingame Fire Department. If you get a chance to sit down with Jake, you will notice he is not shy and will usually have a great story to tell.

Wes Kitchell
Senior Instructor

Wes

Wes has been with Lee & Associates since 1994. He is a Senior Consultant, Confined Space Rescue Team Member and Instructor/Traininer. He is also our Senior Trench Rescue Instructor.

Wes has been in the Fire Service for over twenty years and is presently a Fire Captain with the City of Santa Rosa Fire Department. He is responsible for the department's Technical Rescue Training. Wes is also a HazMat Technician/Specialist.

Gerry Kohlmann
Senior Instructor

Gerry

Gerry has been with Lee & Associates since 1989. He is our Senior Incident Scene Management Training Instructor.

Gerry has been in the Fire Service for over twenty-six years and is presently a Battalion Chief with The City of San Jose Fire Department. He is responsible for training and staff development for the department's Urban Search and Rescue Program.

Randy Jones
Senior Instructor

Randy

Randy has been with Lee & Associates since 1993. He is a Senior Consultant, Confined Space Rescue Team Member and Instructor/Trainer.

Fire Captain Randy Jones has been serving in the fire service since 1983. He has also been a member of specialize Haz-Mat, US&R and truck companies for 15 years.

John Kammeyer
Lead Instructor

John

John is our Lead EMS Instructor teaching CPR, First Aid, Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Automatic Electric Defibrilators. He is also our Lead Instructor for Physical Fitness Training.

John has been in the Emergency Services for over sixteen years and is presently a Firefighter/Paramedic for the City of Burlingame Fire Department. Prior to that John worked with the US Coast Guard as a Rescue Swimmer. John also plays a tough fullback for the San Mateo County Firefighter's Olympic Soccer Team. You better have your shoes tied if you try and get around him!

Nick Jackalone
Lead Instructor

Nick

Nick has been with Lee & Associates since 1992. He is one of our Lead Instructors and Standby Rescue Team Members.

Nick has been in the Fire Service for over fourteen years. He is presently an Engineer with the City of Richmond Fire Department and is responsible for Rescue Training for Fire Department Personnel.

Josh Smith
Service Manager/Adjunct Instructor

Josh

Josh is our Service Manager and he has been with Lee & Associates since 1999. He is responsible for our maintenance contracts with breathing apparatus, gas monitors, fall protection systems and pnuematic tools. Josh is also an Adjunct Instructor and Standby Rescue Member.

Josh is a Ben Lomond Volunteer Firefighter. During heavy storms he is known as the "culvert cleaner" and can clear a storm drain like it's nobody's business.

Marty Walker
Support Service Manager/
Adjunct Instructor

Marty

Marty has been with Lee & Associates since 1996. He is our Support Service Manager directly responsible for equipment logistics. He is also an Adjunct Instructor and Standby Rescue Team Member.

Marty has been in the fire service for over eight years and is an Engineer with the City of San Jose Fire Department. If you come by the office you will spot Marty very easily as the one who's teasing Carl.

Arnie Brockmire
Lead Instructor

Arnie

Arnie has been with Lee & Associates since 2000. He is a Lead Instructor with our Confined Space Rescue Team.

Arnie started his fire career in 1980 as a Volunteer Firefighter with the North San Diego County Fire Department. In 1985 he was hired as a Deputy for the Tuolumne County Sheriff's Department in the Marine Law Enforcement Division and as a full-time Firefighter with Lawrence Livermore Laboratory.

As a Fire Captain and Law Enforcement Officer, Arnie has had the opportunity to join one of the busiest rescue teams in California. He has achieved a position as the Helicopter, Nordic and Probationary Team Leader within Tuolumne County, and has concentrated his fire department's efforts on building one of the Bay Area's top Confined Space Rescue and Technical teams.

Joe Zsutty
Instructor

Joe

Joe has been with Lee & Associates since 2001. He specializes in evaluation and retrofit of existing structures and construction materials investigations.

Joe has a Masters Degree of Science, Structural and Applied Mechanics Degree and a Bachelor of Science Degree from San Jose State University. Along with affiliations with Structural Engineers Association of Northern California, Disaster Emergency Services Committee and FEMA California Task Force 3 Urban Search and Rescue, Joe is certified in many areas from Collapsed Structure Rescue Technician to Hazmat Awareness.
