Scenario Based Large Area/Complex RIC TrainingORD Military Base Next Class: May 11th and 12th 2006 $325 per person (Includes certificate of completion) Lead Instructors: Fire Fighter Jeff Seaton, San Jose FD, CA. The purpose of this training program is to provide firefighters with a realistic approach to lost, trapped or downed firefighter emergencies. This training will include hands-on operations and responsibilities of the Rapid Intervention Company (RIC). The exercises will challenge firefighters physically and mentally through scenario-based deployments. Instructional topics include:Commanding the RIC Deployment (“Mayday”): We will cover Chief Officer's responsibilities as they pertain to Rapid Intervention Crew management.This section also discusses crew accountability and air management tracking systems. Company Officer's Roles and Responsibilities: We will discuss how a proactive RIC can greatly enhance fire ground safety through the recognition of problematic construction types, pre-assigned roles, designated staging areas, and more. RIC Deployment Options: This section is designed to demonstrate search & hose line deployment methods, complex/large area occupancy deployments, packaging & extrication of firefighters. Thermal Imaging Camera Applications (TIC for RIC): Thermal imaging cameras are one of the most exciting advancement to the fire service. In this section we will discuss and demonstrate exterior and interior structural surveys using a thermal imager and the tremendous benefits of a thermal imager for a RIC. Peer instructors will provide realistic scenario-based training through Live Fire, which is NFPA 1403 Compliant and simulated IDLH environments. Firefighters and Chief Officers from all types and sizes of departments are encouraged to participate. The techniques presented in this course can be integrated with existing programs or used as the basis for developing new programs. Students will be able to bring back to their respective departments various deployment techniques. Every year approximately 100 of our fellow firefighters make the ultimate sacrifice. This course will provide you with various life-saving skills to help you and your fellow firefighters return home. Students will receive a workbook, covering all topics from the course.
